Privacy Policy — Mac App Store edition
Last updated · 1 October 2026
This policy covers the Pinit build distributed through the Mac App Store. It is separate from the download edition's policy because the two builds differ: this one runs inside Apple's App Sandbox, has no self-updater, and uses the network only for web page stickers.
What we collect
Nothing. No account, no analytics, no crash reporting, no telemetry. This matches the App Privacy declaration on our App Store listing: Data Not Collected.
Network access
This build carries the outgoing network entitlement for one reason: web page stickers. When you pin a web page, it is loaded directly from that website with WebKit, the engine Safari uses; the website sees your IP address and can set cookies, which are stored in Pinit's own container on your Mac. Pinit makes no other network requests — updates come through the App Store.
What stays on your Mac
Your board of stickers and, unless you turn it off, your pin history are stored inside Pinit's sandbox container, ~/Library/Containers/app.kopit.pinit. Each entry records where the content came from — a file reference, a web address, the text of a note — and how the sticker looked. Images with no file behind them are kept there as copies. History expires after 30 days by default; favorites stay until you remove them. Nothing is synced or uploaded.
Files you pin
The sandbox only lets Pinit open files you have chosen — through an open panel, by dragging, with Open With or the Services menu. To show those files again after a restart, Pinit keeps a security-scoped bookmark for each one. That grant is held by macOS, covers only the files you chose, and is discarded once the sticker has left both the board and the history.
The clipboard
Read only when you choose Pin Clipboard, or open Pin Web Page so that a copied link can be filled in. Pinit keeps no clipboard history.
Text recognition and translation
Both run on device through Apple's Vision and Translation frameworks. macOS may download translation language files from Apple the first time you use a language pair. Pinit sends nothing anywhere.
System permissions
None are requested — no Screen Recording, Accessibility, camera, microphone, photos or contacts. Launch at login is off until you turn it on in Settings.
