Privacy Policy
Last updated · 1 October 2026
This policy covers Pinit for macOS downloaded from this website. The Mac App Store edition is covered by a separate policy, because that build behaves differently.
What we collect
Nothing. Pinit has no account system, no analytics, no crash reporting and no telemetry of any kind. We do not know who you are, whether you use the app, or what you pin with it.
What stays on your Mac
Pinit keeps a board of your current stickers and, unless you turn it off, a history of what you have pinned, in ~/Library/Application Support/app.kopit.pinit. For each sticker it records where the content came from — a file path, a web address, the text of a note — plus its position, size and appearance. Images with no file behind them, such as a pasted screenshot or an image you annotated, are stored there as copies. History entries expire after 30 days by default; favorites are kept until you remove them. Nothing in this folder is synced or uploaded.
The clipboard
Pinit reads the clipboard only when you ask it to: when you choose Pin Clipboard, and when you open Pin Web Page, so that a copied link can be filled in for you. It does not watch the clipboard and keeps no clipboard history. The history in Pinit lists what you pinned, never what you copied.
Files you pin
Pinit reads a file you pin in order to display it, using macOS frameworks such as Quick Look and PDFKit on your Mac. It remembers the file's location so the sticker can come back after a restart; it does not copy the file anywhere.
Web page stickers
When you pin a web page, Pinit loads it directly from that website using WebKit, the engine Safari uses. As with any browser, the website sees your IP address and can set cookies, which WebKit stores on your Mac for Pinit only. We are not part of that exchange, and Pinit adds nothing to it.
Text recognition and translation
Selecting text inside an image uses Apple's Vision and Live Text on your Mac. Translation uses Apple's on-device Translation framework; the first time you translate between two languages, macOS may download the language files from Apple. Pinit does not include any cloud translation service, and the image and its text never leave your Mac.
Network access
Apart from the web pages you pin, this edition makes one kind of network request: checking for updates. It fetches a file from download.kopit.app that lists the latest version. That request necessarily reveals your IP address to the CDN, as any HTTP request does; it carries no identifier for you or your copy of the app. You can turn automatic update checks off in Settings.
System permissions
None. Pinit does not request Screen Recording, Accessibility, camera, microphone, photos, contacts or any other protected access. The one system change it makes is adding itself to your login items on first launch, so your stickers come back after a restart; you can switch that off in Settings or in System Settings › General › Login Items.
Children
Pinit is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. Since it collects no data at all, it collects none from children either.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page. Because the app collects nothing, we do not expect substantive changes.
